Fake Versions of WhatsApp Plague the Google Play Store


According to a recent report from WABetaInfor, fake and possibly malicious versions of popular instant messaging app WhatsApp have been found on the Google Play Store disguised as ‘Update WhatsApp Messenger’ which is developed by ‘WhatsApp Inc’.
The app has been downloaded up to 5,000 times and another version with the same name has over a million downloads. Users have been requested to be aware of such clone apps and to make sure they check the total downloads before downloading the app. For reference, the official WhatsApp app on Android has over a billion downloads.
Additionally, the report states that fake versions of Temple Run 2 and WhatsApp Business have also been found on the Play Store.
