The Academy of the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced a special Oscar for director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for his incredible VR experience called Carne y Arena (Virtually Present, Physically Invisible).
The VR experience, which was part of an exhibit that aims to explore “the human condition of immigrants and refugees” lets viewers feel what it’s like to be a small part of the journeys made by global immigrants and refugees. Although the complete VR experience is just six and a half minutes long, it is directed in such a way that each viewer can step into the shoes of a refugee and experience the fear and uncertainty.
